Santa Fe's Blue Corn Cafe has opened up a restaurant in Albuquerque, next to the Century Rio. Real handy after watching Iron Giant.
Tried several appetizers. Chicken fajitas were good, but the salsa was too mild. The "queso fundido" with crab was a little fishy; was probably simmered too long. They should have served it with a little cup of crab on the side that one could toss fresh onto the bowl. The chipotle corn chowder was the winner, with a warming bite and possibly a dash of sherry.
Instead of corn tortilla chips, they deep-fried wheat flour tortillas; nice, quichey, nouveau-Nuevo, flaky alternative.
The margarita used real lime juice, not Rose's. Not the way I usually like them, but I've never had a better margarita pura. Usually, the traditional ones are too sour.
I recall from the location in Santa Fe that their tamales are made with chipotle, which is too wierd in a tamale. Who wants a tamale that tastes like barbeque?
They don't have margarita glasses. Serious bummer for salt addicts.
