In celebration of surviving another day's employment, I took Pati out to dinner at the Monte Vista Fire Station. It's been getting better every time we go back. I had lightly grilled sea bass over tricolor orzo under a buerre blanc, garnished with steamed broccoli and baby carrots au naturel. I swear I've never had a more perfect piece of fish. The caesar salad and sundried tomato bread were good, too. Pati had duck medallions under a drizzle of something marvelous with a few dabs of raspberry goo, next to a crispy garlic potato pancake served with softened goat cheese with chives folded in, garnished with "frizzled leeks" (their description).
A principal complaint I had when they first opened years ago was that their menu was too short; I like having a variety of choices available. They're now participating in a Guest Chef of The Month program, with chefs coming in from San Francisco and other cities of repute. Nice result: they leave a recipe behind when they leave. I was hard-pressed to make my choice, but it was fantastic.
Their tonic water was a little flat.
